Note: Pre-existing SAP professionals within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will no longer be considered for this initiative. The share of free certifications distributed to professionals within the Middle East and North Africa has been high and the remaining certifications will be now be reserved for newcomers to the SAP ecosystem.

Campaign code redemption requests from MENA will no longer be accepted.  Newcomers from MENA are asked to sign up as instructed below, then present their first name, last name, street address and national ID number along with their SAP Learning Journey completion to digitalskills@sap.com to receive their free certification attempt. Thank you for understanding.

Hi all,

The digital skills initiative is primarily aimed toward people generally considered to be "underrepresented" in the technology industry. The definition of "underrepresented" can vary from region to region, but as the name betrays it is generally groups of people not normally associated with tech jobs in your local area. The reasons behind can range from a lack of access to high level education due to living in a remote area to systemic inequality in a particular region.

For those corporate applicants to the initiative who did make it into the tech industry: we want to hear a bit more about you! Share some inspiration for the newcomers to the SAP ecosystem and tell us why you belong to an underrepresented group in tech and how you made your way into the industry despite that.

We want to hear from you! Share your story as a reply to the discussion below, then send me a private message with your email address. If you are a digital skills initiative applicant who already completed a learning journey, I will send you your free certification attempt.

Note: if you do not yet have a username in the SAP Community, see the demo at the bottom of this blog in order to participate.

I was studying Civil Engineering before graduating from Industrial Engineering. However, I left Civil Engineering by making a radical decision. After graduating from Industrial Engineering, I came across SAP consultancy job advertisements by coincidence and applied, and I never thought I'd have a job like this.  Here we are 🙂 🙂

I am a Computer Engineer graduate. After completing my Graduation, I struggled a lot to get into proper IT job, even though I was a computer engineer. I realized that learning new skills and regularly upgrading my skills is the key to remain relevant in the IT market. Digital Skills initiative has been really helpful to learn new skills.

SAP's digital skill initiatives programmes  helps by bridging the digital skills gap and enabling people and organisations to embrace the digital future. I was able to swiftly grasp the most recent technologies, such as SAP BUILD products on SAP BTP, SAP Extension development on Kyma, SAP Signavio, and SAP Datasphere, by watching recorded sessions and reading articles on SAP Learning Hub and other SAP platforms written by SAP specialists.

Good day David,

I come across to SAP field for few years and realize the importance of self learning and self growth. SAP's digital skill initiatives programs play a vital role in addressing the digital skills gap and empowering individuals and organizations to embrace the opportunities presented by the digital future.

Looking forward for more exciting learning journey.

Hi all 🙂 I am a girl who is just in LOVE with anything related to IT. I was introduced to SAP first time when my company decided to adopt SAP ECC as its ERP system. The more I dag deeper into SAP the more I fell in love with SAP. It was hard to learn SAP properly since I am in Jordan, and here SAP is not adopted in many organizations and the learning resources are rare, but I struggled and learned more about SAP Utilities, MM, PM, PS, and PI/PO, and was certified in Utilities, MM, PM and PS. Though it is a big struggle, it is a sweet one, where learning is fun and challenging.

I graduated as a polymer engineer in 2020, I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of manufacturing processes and had dedicated the few months, I was working as a production engineer to honing the skills in optimizing production lines. I worked diligently at a data card manufacturing organization, striving to improve efficiency and quality.

While attending a conference on industrial automation back in 2021, there was a presentation about SAP. The speaker passionately described how SAP software revolutionized the way businesses managed their operations, streamlining processes and providing real-time insights for decision-making. Intrigued by the possibilities, I decided to delve deeper into this mysterious world of SAP.

My curiosity led me to an online forum dedicated to SAP enthusiasts. Here, I discovered a vibrant community of professionals sharing their experiences and knowledge about SAP implementation and usage. Inspired by the stories of successful transformations and the potential for career growth, I became determined to explore SAP further.

With unwavering determination, I embarked on a journey of self-learning. Devouring books, online tutorials, and attended webinars to gain a comprehensive understanding of SAP's various modules and functionalities. Gradually, I began to grasp the immense power that SAP held in transforming businesses across industries.

And here I am today,

Hi @David_Chaviano ,

I am a highly motivated professional with a diverse background and a strong passion for technology. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Dental Sciences and have worked as a Dental Surgeon in several clinics. However, due to the sudden lockdown imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the decision to explore a new career path.

During my time at home, I decided to utilize the opportunity to learn computer programming skills. Building on my prior exposure to programming during my secondary education, where I completed a computer programming course at Aptech, I focused on expanding my knowledge in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This self-directed learning led me to develop a couple of websites to further enhance my programming skills.

It was during this period that I came across a job posting on Facebook for a Programmer Trainee position in a software house. Eager to apply my newfound skills and gain practical experience, I joined the company as a trainee. Over the course of three months, I consistently demonstrated my dedication and ability to learn, which led to my promotion as a Junior Application Developer.

As a Junior Application Developer, I have been involved in various mobile application development and upgrade projects. However, one of my most notable achievements was when I successfully integrated SAP ERP with a third-party .NET application using SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI), a middleware technology. I took the initiative to learn and implement interfaces, and I independently deployed them. This accomplishment not only showcased my technical skills but also highlighted my ability to work effectively within a team. Although these are just a couple of interfaces those I have developed through using SAP CPI but more in depth still learning and theory is still on the go.

Since then, I have become an integral part of the integration team as a junior, specializing more in SAP-based integrations through SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI). I continuously strive to stay updated with the latest advancements in SAP CPI and integration technologies, ensuring that our solutions align with industry best practices.

With my strong foundation in dental sciences, combined with my newfound passion for programming and integration, I bring a unique set of skills and perspectives to the table. I am committed to leveraging my diverse background to drive innovation, solve complex problems, and deliver exceptional results as a SAP Integration Consultant.

Thank you for considering my profile, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute through learning SAP Technologies and make myself a Certified Professional

Hi @mariah123 - very cool story. Thanks for sharing. What was the timespan that it took for you to upskill from dental science to SAP BTP?

Thank you for your kind words and your interest in my journey! I'm thrilled to share the timespan of my transition from dental science to SAP BTP with you.

It took me around a year to upskill and make the transition. However, I'd like to clarify that it wasn't a sudden shift for me. During my secondary classes, I had the opportunity to get some basics in computer skills from a computer institute. So, when the COVID situation emerged, it became a turning point in my life, making me realize the untapped potential and possibilities beyond dental science.

Once I started learning SAP BTP, I quickly discovered my passion for it, and I felt a strong sense of conviction that this path was meant for me. This conviction fueled my dedication, and I embraced the learning process wholeheartedly.

While the actual duration of transition may seem relatively short, it's essential to understand that the foundations I built during my secondary classes played a significant role in preparing me for this journey. So, in depth, I would say my journey has been a combination of preparation and dedication over the years, leading up to this point. Cheers!!!

Hi @David_Chaviano and all on this platform 👋

I guess I could say the tech industry found me, as I always thought I'd be a doctor! 😁 Anyway, I started out as a graduate trainee in Software Services and from there I fell in love with solution development. When the company decided to implement SAP, they advertised for an ABAP developer and I applied despite knowing nothing about SAP at all. My managers were great, and they took a shot on me. I've been developing ABAP programs ever since! 😊

As for inspiration to African women like me, please shoot your shot! Do not discount yourself prematurely. You never know where your opportunity lies.
